Humor

I found an interesting political cartoon on humor in the newspaper. It was Palin and Obama in a boxing ring, and it showed Palin with five different boxing gloves, not just two, and on each one of the gloves it said something that Palin has the "upper hand" at with Obama. One of the gloves says "hockey mom," "working mother," and "woman politician." And then it shows Obama worn out and obviously defeated while Palin is still standing proudly holding up all five of her boxing gloves.

I feel like this argument does well to be humorous, still taking risks but not being offensive.

That is definately an excellent example of humor, especially from a feminist standpoint. It is a powerful counter argument to the idea that Palin wouldn't be able to handle her home duties with her political duties. I have always had confidence in what Palin is capable of doing.

The humour cartoon you presented in class today was very good. I found both the idea and the pictures effective. I would suggest adding some dialogue from Obama, as that might help people understand the cartoon at face value. Great job.

Your cartoon is very good and looks great, but I think if you added just a tagline or dialogue, it would help get your point across, other than that it looks great.

I thought your cartoon was very good and effective. My suggestion to make even more effective would be to have Obama pushing against a door with his family's heads sticking out and Obama saying "keep out" or something, and on the other side show Palin's family walking out a door and Palin telling them to come on out.

I love it. I think that he is trying to hide alot like the racist thesis his wife wrote in college. i would draw an acutal door tho and have the family coming out the side.

This was really good. Maybe Obama should be saying "keep out" instead of it just being on the door. Also, I couldn't really tell who the people being kept out were. Maybe make it more obvious or find a way to label them as his family.

Your cartoon portrayed your message very well and used good irony. I do however believe that maybe you could use a little bit more dialogue between the different families in order to get your point across a little bit more, and it could also maybe make your cartoon a little bit more humorous.

Solid work. It is light and funny. I did not find it offensive either. It is safe to put almost anywhere. It seems to give the girl power message.
Can't say what would make it that much better, so great work.

Very good point, i believe the media definitely has explored Palins family much further than the Obamas. My only suggestion, like other people said before, is add some dialog between both family's to make your point even more obvious to the audience. Other than that great job.

Even though you say its not well drawn, I say that it doesn't matter because it is obvious who all of the characters are. You might want to write Mrs. Obama or something, but I don't think you need dialogue unless if it is something like "Look at them!" or something. Overall I like it a lot.

The idea was a new one and very good one. A title would be the one thing that could help it out alot. I really enjoyed it and the drawing was very well done.

Good cartoon, i think that you could add some words above Obamas family letting us know who they are because i really didnt know much about his family. Good job though.

Ashley,
Once you explained your humorous argument, it was quite clear. my only suggestion is to make the cartoon clearer so we can clearly see what is going one with who. It was very good, I had no idea Obama said that.
